Softball Recap: Grenada Victorious

Grenada extended their postseason success on Monday against Vicksburg. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Gators. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since March 22nd.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Ann Tucker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Madison Woodard, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Grenada and bumps their season record up to 18-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Vicksburg, they dropped their record down to 8-14 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Grenada will challenge Neshoba Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. Vicksburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
