Baseball Recap: Kickapoo Takes a Loss

After flying high against La Farge on Tuesday, Kickapoo came back down to earth. The Panthers came up short against the Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets on Thursday, falling 9-2. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Gavin Kreger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Kickapoo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jace Nagel, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Chase Krings also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Kickapoo has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Wauzeka-Steuben, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Kickapoo will take on rival La Farge at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Wauzeka-Steuben is set to challenge their familiar foe Seneca at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
