The biggest upset of the week belonged to Temecula Valley, who took down 187th ranked Murrieta Mesa, 32-31. Kyle Plantier threw for 384 yards and 4 touchdowns during the win.
Plantier and Griffin Doran provided fans with a highlight when they connected against the Rams. The connection went for 80 yards, the longest such play in Southwestern this season.
McKinley Ross was a force in the backfield as Murrieta Mesa lost to the Golden Bears.
He was 22-33 with 2 interceptions.
Plantier put up the best numbers in passing as Temecula Valley topped Justin J. Schaeffer's team. Plantier's favorite target this week was Doran, who caught 7 passes for 161 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Plantier of Paul Mcgowen's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,632. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brandon Presley. The Great Oak star has 35 catches for 760 yards.
Michael Robles of the Murrieta Valley is just 91 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Robles has rushed for 909 yards on 128 carries so far this year.
At the moment, the Nighthawks are in third, while the Pumas are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Vista Murrieta and the Rams face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Broncos comes in having scored 360 this season, while Murrieta Mesa has scored 267. Vista Murrieta scored 49 points last week as it beat Murrieta Valley.
The Golden Bears scaled the state rankings by moving to 244 from 285 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Temecula Valley climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Rams 32-31.
