Preview: Burbank Bulldogs vs. Veterans Memorial Patriots
The Burbank Bulldogs will take on the Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Burbank knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Veterans Memorial likes a good challenge.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Burbank beat Lanier 31-27.
Burbank's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rene Espinoza, who picked up 170 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Espinoza's longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards. Johnny Alvarado and his 92 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Burbank's victory.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Cedar Creek at home to the tune of 35-7. Given Veterans Memorial's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 408th, while Cedar Creek is ranked 942nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Their wins bumped Burbank to 9-1 and Veterans Memorial to 7-3.
Burbank took a serious blow against Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in October of 2019, falling 49-7. Can Burbank avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
