St. Edward extends road losing streak to 16

Recap: St. Edward Beavers vs. Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets

This season hasn't been kind to the St. Edward Beavers, who are still winless after their 15th match. They had to suffer through a rough 49-15 loss at the hands of Heartland Lutheran. St. Edward was down 37-12 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Narali Irineo and Leilani Vargas certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Irineo scored five points along with two steals, while Vargas scored a point along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Irineo grabbed two or more steals.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, St. Edward struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Heartland Lutheran racked up 14 assists.

Heartland Lutheran found their leader in underclassman Ella Francl, who scored six points along with 18 rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Niemoth, who scored 12 points along with four blocks.

St. Edward dropped their record down to 0-15 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Heartland Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Edward will take on the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Heartland Lutheran, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bluejays at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Elba focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Monday.
