The Elkhart Elks will face off against the Wortham Bulldogs on Friday. Elkhart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Elkhart took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Kemp get on the board and left with a 22-0 win. That looming 22-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Elks yet this season.
Rylee Lohmeyer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Lively, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisa Denny, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Elkhart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .737. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wortham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Rice, falling 9-2.
Wortham saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Cryer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Elkhart pushed their record up to 3-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs over those games. As for Wortham, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Elkhart was able to grind out a solid win over Wortham when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elkhart since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
