Softball Recap: Eldred Takes a Loss

Eldred had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-7 to make it six. They lost 11-0 to the Port Jervis Raiders. The game marked the first time this season in which the Yellowjackets were not able to get on the board.

Eldred saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sydney Furler, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Furler is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for Port Jervis, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

On Port Jervis' side, Abbey Montalvo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Montalvo was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, Charlotte Rivera was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madison Dobbs, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Eldred is taking a road trip to square off against Liberty at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.92 runs per game on average), something the Yellowjackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Port Jervis, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Our Lady of Lourdes at 5:00 p.m.
