Softball Recap: Casteel Takes a Loss

Casteel lost against Chandler back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Colts fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 11-9. The Colts' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

KJ Tipton was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Winter Melendez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jordin Branch, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Casteel's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Chandler, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-13.

While Casteel had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
