Baseball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. Fike Demons
Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 24th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fike Demons. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Demons from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
EJ Stridiron was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Stridiron was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Stridiron wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Harley, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Smithfield-Selma's record is now 0-8. As for Fike, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Coming up, Smithfield-Selma will head out to challenge West Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fike, they will welcome C.B. Aycock at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
