Softball Recap: Barnwell's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak at Home

Barnwell dropped their record down to 18-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Saluda Tigers, falling 11-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warhorses, who until this match were averaging 2.87 runs allowed.

As for Saluda, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-4-1. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Saluda's part, Miller Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave Martin a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Campbell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Nyla Jordan, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Barnwell will head out to take on Colleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Warhorses' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Saluda does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
