Basketball Game Preview: Breese Central Cougars vs. Marion Wildcats

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Breese Central Cougars face off against the Marion Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday... Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Marion will be up against a hot Breese Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Breese Central blew past Salem 48-27 on Friday. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Wildcats are ranked 502nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Marion humbled KIPP with a 74-26 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Breese Central pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Marion, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4.

Breese Central was able to grind out a solid win over Marion in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 45-32. Will Breese Central repeat their success, or does Marion have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
