Recap: Springfield Tigers vs. Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thunderbirds
It was a good run, but the Springfield Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop by a score of 67-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Springfield's loss came despite strong showings from Brayden Sturm and Ben Potter. Sturm dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, while Potter scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Potter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Fredin, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Springfield's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Springfield won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Sleepy Eye at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Springfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 20 matches -- so hopefully Sleepy Eye likes a good challenge. As for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sibley East at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Sibley East and Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
