Softball Recap: Comstock Takes a Loss

Comstock extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-16. They came up short against the Galesburg-Augusta Rams, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 on Wednesday.

As for Galesburg-Augusta, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-18. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Galesburg-Augusta's part, Kaylin Wetzel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Wetzel a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caitlyn Valadez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Piper Snodderly also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Comstock is taking a road trip to take on Allegan at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.82 runs per game on average), something the Colts will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Galesburg-Augusta, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Climax-Scotts at 5:00 p.m. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
