Volleyball Recap: Springfield Comes Up Short

Springfield had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-21 to make it 12. They fell 3-1 to the Southview Cougars. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Sarah Atherton paced Springfield's offense, picking up ten kills. Atherton got some help from Zoe Rose and her 18 assists. Atherton was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

As for Southview, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-13. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Southview found their leader in sophomore Maci Lucio, who had 12 assists and seven digs. Liz McGowan also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Springfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Shawnee on the 13th. As for Southview, they will be taking part in a tournament against Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
