Preview: Omaha Westside Warriors vs. Omaha Northwest Huskies

Omaha Westside is 8-0 against Omaha Northwest since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Omaha Westside Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Omaha Northwest Huskies at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Omaha Westside has four straight victories, Omaha Northwest has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Omaha Westside beat Kearney 58-53. Given Omaha Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Kearney is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Omaha Westside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Stubblefield, who scored 15 points. The matchup was Stubblefield's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Mitchell, who scored 14 points.

Meanwhile, Omaha Northwest was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 58-52 to Bellevue East. Omaha Northwest has struggled against Bellevue East recently, as their game on Tuesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dontae McDowell, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Crawford, who scored 11 points.

Omaha Westside's victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-0. As for Omaha Northwest, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything came up roses for Omaha Westside against Omaha Northwest in their previous meeting back in January of 2021 as the squad secured a 97-57 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Omaha Northwest's Jayden Curtis-sayers, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Omaha Westside to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
