Basketball Recap: Humphreys County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Simmons

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Humphreys County). They came out on top against the Simmons Blue Devils by a score of 73-63 on Tuesday. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Humphreys County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was King Scrivens, who posted 18 points. That's the most points Scrivens has posted since back in January. Scotty Bronson was another key player, putting up 16 points.

When it comes to explaining why Simmons lost, don't look at Prentavis Madison. Despite the final result, he went 14 of 27 on his way to 31 points and four steals. With that strong performance, Madison is now averaging an impressive 18.7 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lebron Morris, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds.

Humphreys County moved to 7-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Simmons, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Humphreys County will head out to square off against Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Simmons, they will venture away from home to challenge Leflore County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
