Basketball Recap: Omaha Central Skates Past Omaha South with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Omaha Central). They claimed a resounding 72-23 victory over the Omaha South Packers. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while the Packers are ranked 267th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Omaha Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amiyja Hughes out in front who went 5 for 11 en route to 11 points and four steals. What's more, Hughes also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Noelle Tcheuhchoua, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Omaha Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Omaha South only posted five assists.

Despite the defeat, Omaha South saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aubrey Harper posted 15 points and six rebounds. That was a full 65.2% of Omaha South's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Vivian Hodoly also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

The victory got Omaha Central back to even at 5-5. As for Omaha South, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Omaha Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-42 defeat against Millard West on the 10th. As for Omaha South, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 68-33 loss against Burke on the 10th.
