Decatur Central has gone a perfect 10-0 against Greenwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Woodmen at 7:00 p.m. Decatur Central is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Decatur Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Plainfield, who was ranked 20th at the time (Decatur Central was ranked 12th). The Hawks took down the Quakers 37-19 on Friday.
Braylon Morris was his usual excellent self, rushing for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Decatur Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 278 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Decatur Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Fa'Rel Carter.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greenwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past Perry Meridian with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-20. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
A big part of Greenwood's victory came down to the chemistry between Brady Smith and his top target Benjamin Hommell. Smith threw for 194 yards and three TDs on only ten passes while Hommell picked up 179 receiving yards and three scores. Those 179 receiving yards gave Hommell a new career-high.
Decatur Central's record is now 4-2. As for Greenwood, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Decatur Central has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 297.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Greenwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 193.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Decatur Central against Greenwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 44-7 victory. In that contest, the Hawks amassed a halftime lead of 31-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
