Basketball Recap: Montgomery Central Takes a Loss

Montgomery Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 28th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Asheboro Blue Comets, falling 72-36. The Timberwolves lost against the Blue Comets in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 85-27 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Montgomery Central lost, don't look at Brady Fowler. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chavis Bowden, who earned six points.

Asheboro was led to victory by Eli Johnson and Osiris Rodriguez. Johnson went 7 of 10 on his way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Rodriguez dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Elijah Woodle was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven assists and four steals.

Montgomery Central's record now sits at 0-15. As for Asheboro, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-6.

Montgomery Central has already played their next matchup, an 80-50 loss against North Davidson on the 28th. As for Asheboro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-46 win against Oak Grove on the 28th.
