Basketball Recap: Southern Wells Takes a Loss

Southern Wells was the 47-40 winner over Daleville when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Southern Wells Raiders took a 46-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Daleville Broncos. While the Raiders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Broncos 17-7 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Southern Wells still got an impressive performance from Ashlie Needler, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Needler has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Collena Reeves, who posted six points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Southern Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Southern Wells' loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Daleville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Southern Wells and Daleville: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Southern Wells will try to hand South Adams their sixth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Daleville will try to hand Cowan their third-straight loss when the two meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
