The Shakamak Lakers will be playing in front of their home fans against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of three wins, Shakamak's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Greene. Shakamak has struggled against Eastern Greene recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Red Hill by a score of 54-51.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Genna Kidwell, who scored 18 points along with three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Marissa Neeley, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Shakamak's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6. As for Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.
Everything came up roses for Shakamak against Oblong/Hutsonville/Palestine when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 60-23 win. With Shakamak ahead 44-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
