Baseball Recap: Glendora Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Glendora ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Monrovia Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tartans have posted since March 14th.

Santiago Garza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Riley Cooper and Troy Norman did most of the damage at the plate: Cooper went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Norman went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Glendora kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.

Glendora has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Monrovia, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Glendora will challenge Claremont at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolfpack's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Tartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Monrovia, they will venture away from home to square off against South Pasadena at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
