The Great Bridge Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Kempsville Chiefs at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Great Bridge's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Kempsville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Great Bridge had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Indian River on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Braves. Considering the Wildcats have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Adam Bartley was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxen Whitehurst, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Great Bridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Kempsville had just enough and edged out Bayside 2-1 on Tuesday.
Cole Bergenholtz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Kempsville's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jack Boutin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Great Bridge has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Kempsville, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Kempsville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Great Bridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. It's a different story for Kempsville, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Great Bridge's hitters?
Great Bridge beat Kempsville 4-0 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
