Baseball Game Preview: Jones Trojans vs. Calhoun Sandcrabs

The Jones Trojans will head out to face off against the Calhoun Sandcrabs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jones fell victim to Sinton and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. The Trojans have struggled against the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Jones saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Deleon, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.

Meanwhile, Calhoun had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Ingleside on Friday.

Ricky Martinez and Demetrio Rodriguez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martinez tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Rodriguez didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Martinez scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. What's more, Martinez posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Calhoun let Tucker Amerson and Ethen Ramirez run wild. Amerson scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Ramirez scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Calhoun is undefeated when Amerson posts two or more runs, but 7-12-1 otherwise. Cayson Laredo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Jones' defeat dropped their record down to 7-12-1. As for Calhoun, their record is now 10-12-1.

Jones came out on top in a nail-biter against Calhoun in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
