Basketball Preview: Atlantic Christian Cougars vs. King's Christian
The Atlantic Christian Cougars just played last night, but they'll still head out to face King's Christian at 6:45 p.m. on February 2nd. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Atlantic Christian comes in on three and the on six.
In what's become a running theme this season, Atlantic Christian gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past Varsity Opponent 66-40.
Atlantic Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charlie Costello led the charge by scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Costello hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. Noah Stokes was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, King's Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 81-22 victory over Cumberland Christian. That 59 point margin sets a new team best for King's Christian this season.
King's Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Noah Kilgore out in front who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kilgore has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Lawlor, who scored 18 points.
Atlantic Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for King's Christian, their victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Friday as both teams are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Atlantic Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62 points per game. However, it's not like King's Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything went Atlantic Christian's way against the when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the Cougars made off with a 53-31 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Atlantic Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
