Baseball Recap: Schurr Takes a Loss

Schurr fell victim to Montebello and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oilers. Surprisingly, this marked the Spartans' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

David Torres was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.

On the hitting side, Schurr saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Lu, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Schurr has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Montebello, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6.

Looking ahead, Schurr will challenge Nogales at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Montebello, they will face off against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Oilers 3, the Eagles 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
