Volleyball Recap: Denver West Comes Up Short

Denver West came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Montbello Warriors, falling 3-0. The Cowboys were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-18, 25-17.

Montbello's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tia Salas, who had ten kills and four blocks. Those ten kills gave Salas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yaretzi Barraza, who had eight kills, three blocks, and three aces.

Denver West's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Montbello, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season.

Denver West and Montbello will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Cowboys see the court they'll take on Alameda at 6:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Montbello, their break will end when they face Rocky Mountain Prep SMART at 7:00 p.m. on the 30th.
