Preview: Providence-St. Mel Knights vs. Aurora Central Catholic Chargers
The Providence-St. Mel Knights will head out on the road to take on the Aurora Central Catholic Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence-St. Mel is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Providence-St. Mel suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 88-48 defeat at the hands of De La Salle. While losing is never fun, Providence-St. Mel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 469th, while De La Salle is ranked 83rd).
Despite their loss, Providence-St. Mel saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Roache, who scored 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. That's the first time this season that Roache scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Victor Norris, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central Catholic came up short against Leo on Tuesday and fell 54-44. Aurora Central Catholic has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Providence-St. Mel has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Aurora Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
Providence-St. Mel came up short against Aurora Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2016, falling 61-51. Can Providence-St. Mel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
