Softball Recap: Smithtown West Has No Trouble Against Centereach

Smithtown West's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Centereach Cougars with a sharp 12-2 victory. Smithtown West hasn't had any issues with Centereach recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Erin McDaid made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Isabella Russo was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Brianna Frayler was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Smithtown West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.

Smithtown West now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Centereach, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Smithtown West has already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against East Islip on the 9th. Centereach has also already played their next matchup (against West Islip), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
