Wilmington is 9-1 against Peotone since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Wilmington sitting on three straight wins and Peotone on six.
Wilmington's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Crete-Monee with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.
Lexi Strohm looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Keeley Walsh was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Southall, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Wilmington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Crete-Monee only posted an OBP of .077.
Meanwhile, Peotone got the win against Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park on Wednesday by a conclusive 16-1.
Sophie Klawitter was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Peotone got a massive performance out of Ava Kosmos, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Autumn Clay was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wilmington pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Peotone, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Everything went Wilmington's way against Peotone when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Wilmington made off with a 12-0 victory. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
