Baseball Recap: Gateway Charter Gets the Win

Gateway Charter proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cypress Lake Panthers, sneaking past 10-9. With that victory, the Griffins brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Daniel Mendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Mendez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs. He has become a key player for Gateway Charter: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lisban Ramirez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jakob Rivera, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Gateway Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Gateway Charter back to even at 3-3. As for Cypress Lake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gateway Charter will host The Village School of Naples at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cypress Lake, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gateway at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
