Recap: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Jones Trojans
Even though the Jones Trojans scored an imposing 63 points on Friday, the Lejeune Devil Pups still came out on top. Lejeune managed a 69-63 victory over the Trojans. The score was all tied up 33-33 at the break, but Lejeune was the better team in the second half.
Lejeune was led to victory by Camron Myers and Trevor Highsmith. Myers dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Highsmith scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Highsmith has scored all season. Elijah Winston was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Despite the defeat, Jones saw an underclassman step up: Braylen Williams dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten steals. It was the first time this season that Williams scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keonte' Roberts, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Lejeune pushed their record up to 8-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Jones, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lejeune will take on the Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Pamlico County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games. As for Jones, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Mariners at 6:30 p.m. East Carteret will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
