Basketball Recap: La Plata Takes a Loss

La Plata won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They took a blow against the Huntingtown Hurricanes, falling 69-40. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 67-21 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

La Plata lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aniyah Sisco, who posted 18 points and five rebounds. That was a full 45% of La Plata's points, marking the 16th time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Samiyah Elliot was another key player, putting up ten points.

Huntingtown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Eva Powell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards. Powell is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Autumn Harrod, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 14 points and seven boards.

La Plata's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Huntingtown, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.

La Plata wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-47 victory against Patuxent on the 5th. As for Huntingtown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-49 win against St. Charles on the 5th.
