Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Denver East

Denver East came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Northfield Nighthawks with points to spare, taking the game 80-63. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Angels also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Denver East's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grace Hall, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 21 points and five steals. Hall has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played. Liana Valdez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Denver East was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Northfield lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being LaPorsha Allen, who went 8 for 12 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Madison Bethel, who posted 20 points and five boards.

Denver East pushed their record up to 8-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Northfield, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.

Denver East will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Vista PEAK Prep at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Denver East's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games. As for Northfield, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-44 victory against Rangeview on the 31st.
