Baseball Recap: Ellensburg Comes Up Short

Ellensburg extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 10-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Othello Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 on Saturday.

As for Othello, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.

For Othello's part, Aiden Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. Garza has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rjay Garza was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Xzyyvn Martinez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Looking ahead, Ellensburg will challenge East Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Othello, they will head out to face off against Selah at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 1.6, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
