Basketball Preview: Laurel Hill Hoboes vs. Freeport Bulldogs
Laurel Hill is 0-5 against the Bulldogs since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Laurel Hill Hoboes will head out on the road to challenge the Freeport Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Laurel Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
Rocky Bayou Christian typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Laurel Hill proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Knights by a score of 59-51.
Laurel Hill found their leader in underclassman Aiyana Dixon, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds. Dixon hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Lakyn Varnum, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Freeport beat the Atomics 52-48 on Thursday. Given Freeport's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Atomics are ranked 557th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Laurel Hill pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Freeport, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Laurel Hill might still be hurting after the 49-26 loss they got from the Bulldogs in their previous meeting back in December of 2017. Can Laurel Hill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
