Basketball Game Preview: El Paso Tigers vs. Canutillo Eagles

The El Paso Tigers will face off against the Canutillo Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Canutillo will be up against a hot El Paso squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. El Paso walked away with a 69-56 victory over Burges on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canutillo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Jefferson by a score of 59-46 on Tuesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 281st, while the Silver Foxes are ranked 1208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Canutillo's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for El Paso, their victory bumped their record up to 14-11.

El Paso skirted past Canutillo 56-54 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will El Paso repeat their success, or does Canutillo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
