Harvard-Westlake had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They took down the Valencia Vikings 68-49. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Vikings are ranked 131st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Valencia still got an impressive performance from Issac Michel-Zavala, who went 9-for-14 en route to 24 points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Michel-Zavala now owns an excellent 46.9% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Byrne, who posted seven points.

Harvard-Westlake's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Valencia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.

Coming up, Harvard-Westlake will be taking part in a tournament against Punahou at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines will need to watch out since the Buff n' Blue have now posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Valencia, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-35 win against Castaic on the 12th.
