Football Recap: Friona Skates Past Tulia with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canadian, Friona was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 76-38 victory over the Tulia Hornets. The score was close at halftime, but the Chieftans pulled away in the second half with 48 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Friona to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aaron Rosales, who rushed for 145 yards and four scores on only 12 carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Rosales a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jameson Daniels, who rushed for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries.

Friona's run defense was locked in: Tulia could only muster 1.8 yards per carry. The team can thank Mario Garcia for the heroic effort on defense: he. Friona didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.4.

Friona's defensive line didn't let Jacob Trevino, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. In that department, Garcia was the leader with two. He has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last seven times he's played.

Tulia's loss came despite strong showings from Trevino and Logan Becerra. Trevino threw for 402 yards and five TDs while picking up 13.4 yards per attempt, while Becerra picked up 209 receiving yards and three scores. Becerra showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 63 yards.

With the win, Friona broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-7. As for Tulia, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Friona will head out on the road to square off against Dimmitt at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The Chieftans will be up against the Bobcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.38 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Tulia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
