Softball Game Preview: Oneonta Yellowjackets vs. Chenango Forks Blue Devils

Oneonta hasn't had much luck against Chenango Forks recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Yellowjackets will welcome the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Oneonta will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

On Thursday, Oneonta made easy work of Waverly and carried off a 13-3 win. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Carley Mistler made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Mistler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jenevie Gallusser, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kylie Carr, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Lansing hit Chenango Forks with a ten-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Blue Devils lost 18-6 to the Bobcats. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Devils have lost by exactly 12 runs.

Oneonta pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Chenango Forks, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Oneonta came up short against Chenango Forks in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
