Football Recap: Woodside Wildcats vs. Overfelt Royals
Woodside had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 34-16 victory over the Overfelt Royals on Friday. The Wildcats pushed the score to 28-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Royals cut but never quite recovered from.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Carmel Mendes-Grassia and his top target Daniel Torres. Mendes-Grassia threw for 71 yards and a touchdown while Torres gained 83 total yards and three touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Mendes-Grassia has posted since back in October of 2023.
Woodside will head out to face off against Sequoia at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Overfelt, they will look to take advantage of their home-field for the first time this season as they take on Granite Bay at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
