Football Recap: Blacksburg Wildcats vs. Clinton Red Devils

After flying high against Bonnie Cone Leadership Academy last Friday, Blacksburg came back down to earth. The Blacksburg Wildcats were beaten by the Clinton Red Devils 61-14 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Red Devils are ranked 40th).

Clinton was led to victory by Javen Cook and Tushawan Richardson. Cook rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, while Richardson rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. That's the most rushing yards Richardson has posted since back in August. Rhett Gilliam was in the mix as well, providing Clinton with two touchdowns.

Blacksburg has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Clinton, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Liberty the next time they take the field. Blacksburg will host Liberty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Clinton will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on November 8th.
