Baseball Game Preview: Falls Church Jaguars vs. Hayfield Hawks

Falls Church is 1-9 against Hayfield since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Jaguars will welcome the Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Falls Church's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Hayfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Falls Church is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Edison on Thursday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.

Falls Church saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Ross, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hayfield entered their tilt with Thomas Jefferson Science & Technology on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Colonials. That's two games straight that the Hawks have won by exactly ten runs.

Hayfield let Jacob Bueno and Connor Chan run wild. Bueno went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base, while Chan went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Bueno a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Watson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Hayfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hayfield's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Falls Church, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Falls Church skirted past Hayfield 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
