Softball Game Preview: Ballard Bruins vs. Blazer Tomcats

The Ballard Bruins will take on the Blazer Tomcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Blazer took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Ballard, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Ballard earned a 5-2 win over DuPont Manual. The victory continues a trend for the Bruins in their matchups with the Crimsons: they've now won four in a row.

Shelby James made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

James wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emery Schuster, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lucy Strobel was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Blazer was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Male, falling 13-3.

Ballard's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Blazer, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.
