Softball Recap: Sparks Wins Going Away Against Wooster

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Tahoe, Sparks was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Wooster Colts with a sharp 19-4 win. The Railroaders haven't had any issues with the Colts recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Bailey Hunden was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing nine bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.9 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liliana Pimentel Espana, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Rosa Quiroz Murillo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Sparks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sparks' win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Wooster, they dropped their record down to 0-12 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Sparks will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Colts: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
