Volleyball Recap: Alanna Fregoso's Big Game Can't Quite Lead San Dieguito Academy over Mt. Carmel

San Dieguito Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Carmel Sundevils. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sundevils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2022.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, San Dieguito Academy sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 18-25, 25-18, 17-25, 15-10.

San Dieguito Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alanna Fregoso, who had 11 digs, three aces, and one block. Another player making a difference was Riley Balogh, who had six digs, four blocks, and two aces.

San Dieguito Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-23-1. As for Mt. Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-13 record this season.

San Dieguito Academy will be playing at home against Torrey Pines at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will challenge Oceanside at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
