Basketball Recap: North Gaston's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

North Gaston can finally bid farewell to their 16-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 46-34 win over the East Gaston Warriors. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Warriors two weeks ago, they had to take a 31-30 defeat.

North Gaston got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Hailey Holmes out in front who went 5 of 12 en route to 16 points. Holmes has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mesiah Thomas, who posted six points and four steals.

East Gaston's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reagan Lilja, who put up 13 points. Kayla Maiers was another key player, putting up 11 points.

North Gaston's win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-5. As for East Gaston, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

North Gaston wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 40-34 victory against Highland Tech on the 10th. As for East Gaston, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-13 loss against East Lincoln on the 10th.
