Softball Game Preview: North Wilkes Vikings vs. Elkin Buckin' Elks

The North Wilkes Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Elkin Buckin' Elks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Wilkes will be strutting in after a victory while Elkin will be coming in after a defeat.

North Wilkes is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Wilkes Central on Monday as they made off with a 23-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Elkin didn't have quite enough to beat Mount Airy on Tuesday and fell 5-3.

Alyssa Jenkins was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Jenkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie White, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Another was Zoey Cincotti, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Elkin has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for North Wilkes, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

North Wilkes couldn't quite finish off Elkin in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 and fell 5-3. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
