Recap: Manzano Monarchs vs. Belen Eagles
The Manzano Monarchs's game on Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against Belen by a score of 40-33. The victory was all the more spectacular given Manzano's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Belen is ranked sixth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Manzano to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hen?kaiazia Shorter, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Daira Solis was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Belen's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaelynn Bob, who scored 8 points. Another player making a difference was Danilynn Bob , who scored 8 points.
The win got Manzano back to even at 2-2. As for Belen, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Manzano won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against West Mesa at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully West Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Belen, they will be playing at home against Lovington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Lovington has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests.
