2A Western recap September 4, 2013
Coal Ridge fell to Rifle 54-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Aspen led 2A Western in scoring this week after putting up 39 points on Ignacio. Ryan Fitzgerald ran for 171 yards during the win.
Bayfield's dynamic duo of Kelton McCoy and Zane Phelps proved to be unstoppable against Kirtland Central, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McCoy threw for 73 yards and Phelps had 34 yards receiving. Matthew Knickerbocker helped Bayfield's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 20 yards.
The Wolverines' dynamic duo of McCoy and Phelps proved tough for the Broncos to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Fitzgerald was a passing and rushing force as the Skiers topped the Bobcats. Fitzgerald's favorite target this week was Evan Morris, who caught 2 passes for 16 yards.
Angus Taylor made the biggest impact on defense this week as Bayfield fell to Kirtland Central. The 5-foot-4 sophomore.
Fitzgerald was the best running back in the league this week. Tyler Tick also contributed to the rushing game with 77 yards on the ground.
Phelps was the best wideout in the league this week as Gary Heide's team fell to Kevin Graham's team.
McCoy put up the best numbers through the air as the Wolverines fell to the Broncos.
Leading 2A Western in both passing and receiving yards, Basalt's Matt Williams and Tucker Jenkins have proven to be a lethal combination. Williams has thrown for 200 yards this season, while Jenkins has 6 catches for 66 yards. Aspen's Fitzgerald leads the league in rushing yards with 171.
Olathe made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,066 from 11,210. The improvement came about via a 34-13 victory over the Pirates last week.
